Posted by: susieQ on 2007-06-07, 22:58:35 Congratulations! Couple of things: First, your envelope will be about 1/ 4 " bigger than the actual size of your invitation. Secondly, with any diy envelope, use of staple, etc. Take a sample of your project to your post office to make sure it meets their standards. You can use a small catalog envelope, call your local paper store (ask your local printer where they go for stock) see what they have in stock at a reasonable price. Hope this helps. |

Posted by: Jessi on 2007-06-07, 17:30:54 Just my opinion, but this sounds very cheap and not very elegant/ professional/ appealing. You could have went cheap still and made your own, you know, bought one of them make your own kits. I think you should just buy regular envelopes and then maybe print out address labels on the computer. |

Posted by: Siete Suerte on 2007-06-07, 17:33:27 Man, this sounds like crap. There were some really cheap ways to do this without it looking like you threw it together. You would have been better off sending emails. |

Posted by: Kari W on 2007-06-07, 17:33:51 I would suggest taking apart an envelope carefully that you like the style of. Then measure your own invitation and enlarge or shrink the envelope pattern as needed (you can do this on a copy machine). When you get it to the size (or sizes if you are making two envelopes) you like, cut it out of tag board or stiff paper, and use it to trace and cut out the pattern, you can then use either glue or a tape runner (scrapbook section of a craft store) to quickly seal them into the right shape. All of this actually sounds like a lot of work for an envelope. You can purchase blank envelopes of many sizes in craft and paper stores. The only thing I can see that may be a problem with your suggestion is that you want to make sure that what you make is going to go through the postal service. I am not sure about the "staples ". Good Luck! |

Posted by: moonette_1012 on 2007-06-07, 17:39:37 Hi. i did my daughter's own invitations using Microsoft word and a kit i bought at the local arts and crafts store. it was very easy and I'd be more than happy to email you the example for wording, etc. they were beautiful. i made them because they were married in Vegas and we wanted a total Vegas them. The invitations looked like the K of Hearts. The reception invitations were the Q of hearts. Everyone complimented me on how nicely they turned out and I spent roughly $40 for 200. |

Posted by: Rika on 2007-06-07, 17:40:36 Nothing wrong with going the cheap route...sometimes homemade is the nicest & most creative. Someday that's what I'm going to have to do, down the road. :) I added a link, that has some info on making your own envelopes... Hopefully it helps. I can be crafty, but decorating is more my thing. Good luck! ^_^ |

Posted by: DarLa on 2007-06-07, 17:40:45 Making your own invite is great and allows you to be creative and different! Envelopes on the other hand...Just forget your notion of "I can do it, " and buy your envelopes. they really are not very expensive! Plus it sounds like a royal pain in the bum to make them. If you are having a hard time finding envelopes, just find a invitation vendor and ask if you can order your envelopes from them. |

Posted by: PG on 2007-06-07, 17:51:32 Not sure I understand why you want to make the envelopes yourself, it can't be because you are cheap, since blank envelopes are so inexpensive.... If you really want to make the envelopes yourself I'd suggest you use handmade plantable "Flower Seed Paper ". This is paper made of organic fiber and flower seeds and can be planted. It's a really neat way to do something for the environment and it also carries some symbolic value. Good Luck. |
